Library Policies and Procedures
Library Code of Conduct: These library use guidelines are intended to ensure that ALL students are able to effectively use the library for educational purposes. Students whose behaviors do not meet these guidelines or which prevent others from being able to use the library for educational purposes will immediately be asked to leave the library and return to their classroom. If the behaviors persist, it will be considered grounds for temporary suspension of library privileges.
All students are expected to:
- Come to the library with a purpose.
- Respect others, respect property and respect themselves.
- Come to the library prepared with the materials needed to accomplish their work.
- Students are able to visit the library during study halls, advisory periods and lunches.
- Teachers may not send more than 5 students at a time with the exception of special circumstances verified by a teacher.
- Students must arrive at the library with a white library pass signed by their teacher. Students who do not have a pass will be returned to their classroom.
- Students are required to sign in electronically to the library upon arrival.
- Students must get a pass from the library if they need to go to another area of the school.
- Food and drinks will not be allowed in the library space.
- Students can check out up to 4 books at a time.
- Books can be borrowed for 2 weeks at a time.
- Students can renew their books 2 times (unless there is another student waiting on that book).
- If the SMS library does not have a particular book in our collection that a student would like to read, we will happily request to borrow the book from another library (ILL).
- Students are always encouraged to make requests and recommendations for new library books and materials.
